Jane Smith's Success Story

Jane Smith (name changed) was homeless, jobless, and hopeless when she and her nine-year-old son came to Life Start Village, looking for help.
“I was without direction and goals and knew I needed help in getting where I wanted to be,” Jane said. “I had no job, no home or apartment, and little to offer my son.”
Jane moved into Life Start Village and immediately found the friends and support she’d been lacking her whole life.
“Seeing and talking to moms in my same situation was helpful,” she said. “I knew I was not alone.”
Living at Life Start Village wasn’t a “free ride” by any means. It required a lot of hard work and dedication in order to stay there. Jane was given chores, inspections, cooking responsibilities, and mandatory classes. Jane attended weekly meetings to help her find employment, and was soon working as a teacher’s assistant at Midvale Elementary.
“The work and support gave me the positive outlook I needed to see that I could reach my goals,” Jane said. “I even started looking at going back to school.”
Jane said there were times she felt exhausted and frustrated by all the work and effort Life Start Village required of her, but looking back, understands those challenges built the strength of character she needed to get on her own two feet.
Jane is now in phase II of Life Start Village, meaning she lives in her own private apartment, and is financially self-sufficient. She is going to school full-time to get her degree in Early Childhood Education, and expects to graduate next year.
“I have Life Start Village to thank for all the wonderful challenges and blessings it brings,” said Jane. “It will always deserve my respect and gratitude for helping me overcome and grow. For without it, I would not have gotten to where I am now.”
